Walgreens 101

I apologize but the current Walgreens program has been shut down! The new one is supposed to be developed by the end of the month so I will keep you guys updated!

The reason why they’re changing it is because they don’t want customers to use their Register Rewards (RR) to buy something else that offers Register Rewards! I’m pretty sure this the reason most people go to Walgreens so we’ll see what happens!

Former ”Register Rewards” program for the time being:

If you’re familiar with CVS’ Extra Care Bucks program, then you pretty much know the gist of it. Both the ECB & RR program earns you “credit” that you receive if you purchase a qualifying item. For example, lets say this week Colgate Total toothpaste earns you $2 rr. After you buy the item, the register will print out a $2 credit that you can use to buy anything in the store. People usually use the RR credit to buy something else that offers rr so you end up getting items for free or for very little cost.

The main difference between RRs & ECB is that you can’t use RR’s to buy the same item you received the RR’s from. So the Colgate toothpaste $2 RR you received can’t be used to buy another Colgate toothpaste! CVS however allows you to do that but they do place a limit.

Another difference is that Walgreen’s RR has a limit of how many coupons you can use.  The number of coupons you use must be the same number of items you buy. If you have 4 coupons, then you must buy 4 items. (Register Rewards count as a coupon). This pretty much sucks in my opinion but I admit, they do have a decent amount of clearance items at the store. They have hair pins for $.20 cents, bags of yummy cashew clusters for $.50, etc. They even have a 4-pack of energy efficient light bulbs for $1! Personally, it’s sort’ve a downer because you have to pay $.50 or whatever just to use a coupon. What if the coupon was for $.75! Then it’s not really a deal and coupons you paid for are just going to waste.
